On any given Saturday and Sunday the cobble-stoned streets of the historic Rocks precinct come alive with all the treasures and treats to be found at The Rocks Markets. Nestled under the Sydney Harbour Bridge at the northern end of George Street, the markets have been delighting Sydneysiders and visitors alike since 1991 when they first set up shop underneath the unique sail-like canopy that ensures the market remains a hive of activity through rain, hail or shine. Widely regarded as Sydney’s premier street market, the trestle tables of over 150 stall-holders are laden with an eclectic range of jewellery, home-wares and collectables not to mention plenty of gourmet goodies.
The Rocks Market has a particular focus on quality hand-crafted Australian wares and the food on offer is no exception. Meander through the markets and pick up some scrumptious delights to take home; even your pooch is catered for with a range of wholesome and natural treats from Gourmet Doggie Bag. The Chilli Factory have plenty of fiery gourmet sauces and chutneys to turn up the heat on your next barbecue while The Tea Party invites you to peruse their range of soothing teas and pretty accessories. Snack on a piping hot cob from The Rocks Original Hot Corn or some choc-coated Lush Berries washed down with an Old Fashioned Lemonade. Foodies take note: The Rocks Markets are due to become even more delicious over the next few months when the Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority sets up Sydney’s first inner-city Farmer’s Market under the distinctive sails.
