ECQ is the more casual bar to the Quay Grand All Suite’s fine diner, Quadrant. Chef Ross Barrett services both menus, and the Quadrant dessert menu is now available at ECQ bar as part of a post-show special. The idea is that you have an early dinner at Quadrant, nip down to that white, funny-shaped building a few hundred metres away, and then return for something sweet and an aperitif. There is also a dessert tasting platter in the works, which means you’ll be able to try both the coconut pannacotta with confit pineapple and pandanus sago, and the steamed chocolate pudding with bitter lime syrup and rosewater gelato. Quite a tempting offer, say my thighs. The rest of the bar menu is a combination of nibblies and light meals with Asian and Mediterranean accents.
Toast the water views with lime-dressed oysters or a refreshing plate of tuna and salmon sashimi. If you’re after lunch or dinner you may want something from the grill such as t-bone with cafe de paris or garlic buttered king prawns. A selection of four tapas plates plus Turkish bread is available for $24 and will suit those opting for a liquid dinner. Speaking of which, the entire Quadrant wine list is available up at the bar which means a good selection of high-end drops from Australia and New Zealand, and French bubbles.
