As Sydney's most awarded Indian restaurant, Flavour of India Edgecliff is still consistently packed since opening in 1990. The rich woody interior has a warm exotic atmosphere and is filled with the smells of turmeric, cardamom and saffron.

DETAILS
Flavour of India is a local haunt for international VIPs. All the traditional Indian favourites are here, superbly done - the creamy chicken tikka masala is a house specialty. There are a number of less often seen dishes on the menu, including some new low-fat additions including Taj chicken salad, seafood stack, tandoori prawns a separate menu caters for vegetarians and includes dahl, pumpkin curry and mushroom saag aloo.

Established in 1990, Flavour of India of Edgecliff, a short walk from Rushcutters Bay Park, enjoy status as one of the city’s most awarded Indian restaurants. With a dark grey exterior hidden behind New South Head Road’s relentless traffic, Flavour of India is nevertheless a popular haunt for locals, including some of the eastern suburbs’ elite. The dining room extends over two levels, with carved wooden mirror frames, wrought-iron railings and chandeliers blending East and West design with minimal clutter and a simple, inviting elegance.

The menu covers most of the classics, and more recently the chefs have added a wider selection of southern Indian dishes to their repertoire. Among the entrees, lamb cutlets are moist and tandoor-roasted to perfection. An outstanding range of curries span the continent, from Kerala-style beef curry with rich almond and star anise gravy, to the ubiquitous north Indian butter chicken, served here with a creamy, deeply-flavoured masala sauce. Order plenty of naan or roti for mopping up sauces, and round off the meal with mango kulfi (traditional Indian ice-cream).
