The distance between Manly and Chinatown has done wonders for the ancient Chinese tradition of yum cha. Anita and Alice, the two sisters who have built the Phoenix empire, have created a restaurant that capitalises on all the best things Manly has to offer (namely a great location and buzzing atmosphere) and combined it with exquisite Chinese cuisine. Light streams in through the floor to ceiling windows, with a view that stretches past Manly Wharf to the sparkling harbour beyond. The decor is modern, the dishes well-presented and the service, although occasionally dismissive, is a huge step up from any Chinatown expectations.
Lunch times are occupied with yum cha service. All your favourites are on offer; delicious har gau (prawn and minced meat wrapped in a translucent skin of rice flour), and cha siu bau (barbecued pork buns) grace the menu. Yum cha bookings are accepted, even on a Sunday, which is a huge bonus for the hung-over and impatient. As the sun sets over the harbour the Pheonix offers a varied and creative a la carte menu. Sample delicacies such as Singapore chilli snow crab, and steamed scallops with shallot and ginger. The duck meat harmony stir-fry is an adventurous choice, containing duck meat, calamari, jelly fish and vegetables; perhaps a little scary but definitely worth the effort.

Manly Phoenix is an ideal choice for a private function, located on Manly Wharf. Functions for up to 200 for a cocktail party and 120 seated can easily be catered.
