Sunlight streams in through the large windows, and linen-clad tables are calmly patrolled by well-dressed, polite (and not screaming) waiters. In stark comparison to the raucous menagerie that most yum cha restaurants aspire to, Sky Phoenix feels decidedly calm and serene; the only resemblance to its counter-parts are the captive fish and crustaceans parading forlornly up and down their tanks. The recently-opened Phoenix Lounge caters for everything from a macchiato to a Manhattan, and is a great place for a pre or post dinner drink. The restaurant also caters for large groups, with numerous rooms separated from the main dining room available for hire.
Yum Cha is served daily between 11am and 3pm, and includes all the delicacies you would expect; yet, while familiar to the eye, your tastebuds will savour some modern twists to traditional dim sum (meaning to touch the heart). The prawn gow gees feature entire prawns rather than a prawn mince, a delicious deviation from the traditional technique. The salt and pepper calamari is also a standout. Order off the a la carte menu to savour their beef pancakes with hoi sin sauce, or try the steamed scallops in XO sauce. The wine list has some great bottles on offer, another welcome shift from the stereotyped yum cha restaurant.
