A large restaurant vying for attention among its similar neighbours in the Spanish Quarter, Spanish Terrazas draws in the punters with bright pastel and terracotta decor, cheerful staff and, the big bonus – live music and enough good sangria to get you off your seat and on the dance floor. Although it offers a good value lunch special, this is really a night-time destination, happily catering for large groups and not really the place for a quiet, romantic dinner. Less formal than some of the surrounding establishments, its heart and soul is the sound of Spain and Latin America, from stirring flamenco strumming to red-blooded salsa beats.
Spanish Terrazas doesn’t serve food that will get in the way of a sociable, danceable evening. It’s all about good, finger-licking tapas standards, served either individually or in mountainous platters with spice-laden dipping sauces. Garlic prawns, patatas bravas and more-ish chorizo all arrive hot and quick to the hungry crowds. The seafood platter or barbecue tasting plate deliver plenty of quality nosh for the money, and the paella avoids stodginess, piled generously with seafood, vegies and chicken. The CBD lacks venues like this: big, fun, and easy on the wallet, Spanish Terrazas is a perfect introduction to Sydney’s Latino culture.
LOCATION
Southern end of the CBD, in the Spanish quarter, close to Town Hills and George Street Cinemas.
DETAILS
Spanish Terrazas comes highly recommended for those wanting top notch Spanish food at reasonable prices, great atmosphere and for those wanted to kick up their heels on a Friday night. Spanish Terrazas has recently changed ownership and now has a refreshing new look with terracotta toned walls, wooden tables with wrought iron chairs, a welcoming entrance with sofas and a fabulous new menu offering some of the most interesting Spanish food in Sydney.
FOOD & BEVERAGE
Typically Spanish, there is a constant aroma of garlic coming from the kitchen, where dedicated owner/chef Carlos can be seen hard at work, preparing the succulent Tapas Platters, Paella and other culinary Spanish delights. Recommended is the Platos Tradicionales (traditional dishes) a colourful display of Spanish delicacies that you can share with your partner. Succulent calamari, Spanish sausage, mushrooms marinated in olive oil and garlic potato are all beautiful presented on a large platter that sits on a raised stand. There is something very sociable about sharing a platter with friends, making the Platos Tradicionales are highly recommended for groups. Alternatively choose from the extensive individual Tapas Menu with prices starting at $7.00. Terraza's sangria has a real kick to it and is amongst the best we've had this side of Barcelona. If you're unsure about what to order, you won't go wrong asking the friendly and professional Spanish staff for their recommendations.
ENTERTAINMENT
On Wednesday nights, Jorge Campano performs unplugged on Spanish guitar and vocals, playing the stirring music of Andalucia.
Thursdays see The Gypsy Poets – Banda Flamenca strut their stuff live recreating the music and colour of Spain. Friday and Saturday are party nights, with a dance floor and the sounds of the fabulous live band playing everything from Antonia Carlos to Santana from 8.30pm.
